Central Collapse

It's a fantasy of blight in the midst of a modern city. Surrounded by supermarkets and permeated by shreds of music from passing cars, the complex is slowly shrinking into itself. Even as the collapse of its floors is reflected by the shiny apartment windows across the street, the entire building seems to be invisible to the pedestrians passing outside the fence. Inside is a theme park of decay with no one in attendance. Yet everything is in motion. Doors are dancing off their hinges while drooping wallpaper provides a stage curtain for the shifting walls. Betty Boop performs a last jig as the floor gapes open to peek up her dress. It won't be long until most of these rooms will no longer be traversible, and yet there is a sense that the show is just beginning. We will return to watch.
